Graci Harkema | She gave me life

Graci Harkema was born in a mud hut in the Congo, just one mile from the Rwandan border. Her biological mother Mari Jani was just 14 years old, suffering from malnutrition when she gave birth to Graci her 3rd child. Mari Jarni's other to children unfortunately had died. Only one week old, Graci was suffering from 4 different diseases and was only expected to live for another 24 hours. She would be given away to an orphanage, to give her one last hope of life. That day an American missionary family, who were passing by to help the orphanage saw Graci and vowed to her adopted her. From that moment her life would change forever.  As years went by it was thought that Mari Jani died from her illness's. Thanks to both her biological mother and her adopted family, Graci would go on to live a happy and fulfilled life, living the American dream and building her corporate career.  Something was missing, Graci really wanted to find her biological mother, and thank her for everything she did. She didn't want to do it alone. With the support of her foster parents, she managed to track down Mari Jani.  The whole family decided to fly back to the Congo to meet her biological mother, who was thought to be dead. Upon meeting, Both Graci and Mari would recognise each other from their distinctive smile. Mari Jarni repeated the words "My Daughter, my daughter, my daughter"  #LoveYourJourney

James Mcleod | Being accepted

James McLeod, from as young as he can remember was bullied for his appearance. People would look and stare, mainly because they were inquisitive and didn't understand his Vitiligo condition. James would simply look back at them and smile, counting the smiles he received in return would always boost his confidence.  At the age of 6 the bullying was relentless in school, with kids saying things like, "Do you have bleach on your face" , "You look like a freak" , "You're a monster". Struggling with his self confidence, feeling alone and isolated, all James ever wanted was to be accepted, so he did what most kids were doing in his neighbourhood, and that was to sell drugs at the age of 13. This led to a 2 year sentence in a Juvenile Prison.  Things continued to spiral out of control, James continued down a difficult path of selling drugs and stealing in order to be accepted. For this he would serve a 5 year sentence leaving prison at the age of 29.  He had hit rock bottom and vowed to change his life. Starting work in a Sandwich shop to earn money, and work his way through the company. James slowly built his confidence, until one day he decided to write a book, helping to inspire other children to have confidence and push through their adversity. This self taught author wrote the book, The Boy Behind the Face.  James now speaks to 1000's of kids sharing his amazing journey through adversity. He recalls the children he spoke to looking at him like a super hero. The boy behind the face was finally accepted. #LoveYourJourney

Lynne Mactavish | Winnie's Voice

Dr Lynne Mactivish, a Zimbabwean native fled the country of her birth with her family as refugee's. From as young as Lynne can remember she has always had a passion for animals, starting with the day her father Dougal, came home with a small Weaver Bird that she would nurture as a 4 year old.  Lynne now lives in a small wooden house, on her South African game reserve, living out her childhood dream, and walking in her fathers footsteps.  One day everything would change, and Lynne would discover her real purpose. Lynne would come across her White Rhino, Winnie, lying dead on her side. What was most significant about Winnie's death is that she had a fully formed calf inside of her, and was about to give birth. Poachers had hacked away at Winnie's face with machetes all for her prize'd horn.  Lynne sat there next to Winnie's body, and would make a promise to become Winnie's voice, and devote her life to these animals that are on the verge of mass extinction. A powerful image from that day, of Lynne sat next to Winnie's lifeless body would go viral, and feature in major news publications across the globe. All of a sudden the shy girl from Zimbabwe, would share a powerful message about these amazing creatures with national media outlets like CNN, The New York Times, The LA Times and LADBible to name a few. Winnie's death was the saddest day of Lynne's life, but she would always keep her promise to be Winnie's voice. From South Africa Lynne would start a 5 year scientific study, into the de-horning of Rhinos, to protect them against poachers. Lynne set about telling the world of these methods and world listened to Winnie's voice. Lynne teaches conservation to 300 students annually, and has received an Honorary Doctorate of science from the university of Brighton.  Her reserve have not lost any Rhino's to poachers since.  #LoveYourJourney

Billy Cookson | Dad by his side

Promising cricketer and all-round talented sportsman Billy Cookson, made the decision as most aspiring cricketers do, to travel to Australia and pursue his dream. Left without a club during the English off season, Billy snapped at the chance to 'pro' for Melbourne's, Kyabram Cricket Club, who were certainly excited for the arrival of the talented wicket keeper, batter.  Two weeks after agreeing the deal, Billy would find himself settled into Australian life, and working the first shift of his new day job as a delivery driver. Little did he know, that the events of that day would change his life forever. His vehicle was involved in a head on collision with a bus, that would leave him in a coma for 6 days. After waking up with his parents next to his bedside, Billy knew something was wrong. The injuries Billy sustained would result in him needing 18 different surgeries, which would include a fusion of his Radius and Ulna in his right arm. What is most remarkable about Billy's journey is how he has chosen to react to this unfortunate event. No excuses, no feeling sorry himself. In fact lying in his hospital bed, against all medical opinion, Billy set himself an improbable goal. He wanted to prove to himself that he could not only walk again, but get out onto the pitch and play the game he loves. He achieved this exactly 1 year to the day, by turning out for Kyabram CC who had supported the young prodigy throughout. Matt Cookson, Billy's dad arranged a 6 day trip to Australia, around work commitments, to surprise Billy, and be there to walk out with his son, for his return to cricket.  2 Years on and Billy's road to recovery continues on in Australia. The young man from Chippenham has big dreams to continue playing cricket, and involve himself in an event at the Para Olympic games. He also continues to do talks around the country sharing his story. There is no doubt, he will have his father by his side. #LoveYourJourney

Pavel Florin | I love this game

Pavel Florin knew little about the sport of cricket, It was only through a chance encounter with some foreign players in his local park, that first sparked his interest in the game. The former nightclub bouncer from Romania, developed a hunger for cricket that would never leave him. He recalls the early stages of developing his game, by watching players he wanted to emulate, through videos online. With no training facilities in his local area, Pavel would make the 500 kilometre journey across Romania, to Cluj Cricket Club and attend training sessions to practise his batting and bowling. His enthusiasm for the sport was obvious for all to see, nothing would get in the way of his new found passion. Little did Pavel know at the time, that he would one day play for Romania, and capture the imagination of the cricketing world, in the most unlikely fashion. During the 2nd day of a European cricket league game, Pavel would be handed the ball by his captain, and asked to bowl in a losing cause. The video of him bowling would get millions of views around the globe, and spark intense conversation around his unusual style of bowling. He knew he wasn't the most skilful cricketer, but he didn't care. He just love's playing cricket. In an interview after the game, the global cricketing family fell in love with his humility. "Maybe people will say my bowling is not beautiful, or not effective, but I don't care, because I love cricket"   Through his online fame, Pavel has now travelled the world, visiting famous cricket grounds, and rubbing shoulders with some of the greats of the game. #LoveYourJourney

Kelly Phasey | Misfortune, turned into triumph

Kelly Phasey never thought life would turn out the way it did, after being hit by a car at the tender age of 5. After the accident that caused trauma to her head, doctors said she would be fine, and life carried on as normal. In later life Kelly would develop a passion for rugby, and went on to achieve great things in the game, playing for Worcester ladies, and then trialling for England. Then one day after a game, Kelly got pins and needles in her arm, an MRI scan would later reveal a cyst on her brain, which meant she had to give up her passion for rugby immediately. Her dreams were shattered. Following a new direction, Kelly got herself a job in a gym that was owned by a power-lifter, which immediately had an impression on her. Power lifting started as something that was a bit of fun, however it undoubtedly relit a flame in her. Kelly has now won 6 British titles, Broken 16 British records and won 4 commonwealth games medals, in power lifting.   #LoveYourJourney

Luke Sutton | A journey from the brink of despair

At age 35, Luke Sutton found himself with a 17-year professional cricket career behind him, a business owner, a dad, a husband, and what most would consider to the outside world, a ‘success’. Luke partied hard, and then trained harder to shrug off the after-effects caused from the excessive alcohol the night before. Drinking became an increasing part of his life. Long nights became even longer days, mornings of waking up somewhere, anywhere - then starting all over again. During this time he had never felt so desperately lonely, and had been fighting this secret battle, a battle that was crippling him. Depression and alcohol had him trapped. Sat on his bed in the rehabilitation centre, with tears pouring down his face, he was totally broken and needed help. Now at 43, Luke has been sober for 8 years, and last year decided to help inspire others who are also suffering, by releasing his book, Back From The Edge. Luke is grateful for the journey he has been on. Now a better father and family man, he has found true happiness and found himself again.   #LoveYourJourney

JP DUMINY | A journey of gratitude

South African cricket legend JP Duminy took the world by storm, when he first burst onto the scene in 2008, during what would be his debut test series against Australia. Over the course of a 9 year international career, the softly spoken and humble Capetonian, would go on to reach the very top of the cricket world. Fame, stardom and the riches of the IPL would surely be the pinnacle of achievement, for him, or any aspiring cricketer. For JP this wasn’t quite enough and something seemed to be missing from his amazing journey. JP wanted to do more, and give something back to the kids of South Africa, and the game that had served him so well. In 2015 the JP21 Foundation was set up to inspire enthusiasm for the game in underprivileged areas of the Western Cape. So far the JP21 movement has built 6 cricket pitches, brought cricket to 38 different schools, and given over 2000 kids access to the game they love. Calling time on his illustrious career in the game, has meant the start of a whole new Journey for JP Duminy.  #LoveYourJourney
